I didn't know I wanted to embark on a career in TV news until after I graduated from college. I majored in biology and got my undergraduate degree from the University of Californa Santa Barbara. While finishing my last history class at a local community college, I started taking photos for the school newspaper and got hooked! I received my Masters in journalism from Syracuse University in New York, and the rest is history.
My first on air job was as a weather anchor and reporter at WWNY in Watertown, NY.....a tiny town that gets 172 inches of snow a year! There we helped cover the infamous 1998 Ice Storm which left 6 inches of ice over the Northeast.
My second job took me to sunny California. At KSBY, I forecasted the sometimes unpredictable Pacific and covered stories like the Alaskan Airlines Flight 261 disaster.
I arrived in Portland after working for two years in the south. In Nashville, TN tornados were the challenge. There, I learned the ins and outs of forecasting severe weather. Interning with the National Weather Service, I was tested and accredited by the National Weather Association and received my Meteorologist Seal of Approval in 2001. I also served the Nashville community as WZTV's feature reporter.
It was in Portland where I first put on a pair of skates. The local shopping mall here has a skating rink where shoppers can watch the skaters, and I stood there watching everytime I came shopping for a good six months before I actually got the guts to sign up for a Pre-Alpha class. From there it was love. I did freestyle, singles skating for a while, but quickly learned that my back couldn't take the jumping. And to tell the truth, I was a bit scared to jump! When I discovered dance, there was no looking back. I sailed through my Bronze test within a year, and now dancing at the Gold Level with Jordan.
I grew up in Luzern, Switzerland. I am an avid horse lover, and ride whenever I can. When we met, Jordan and I learned that we were both riding competitively in the Arabian horse world at the same time and never knew it! It is a small world. On the side, I am a budding Professional Portrait Photographer, and love to shoot families, children and pets. Even though I have been photographing for years, it wasn't until recently that I discovered a professional passion for it, and I am currently starting up my own studio. I play the cello, and love to cook gourmet dishes for my friends and family. Speaking of family, mine lives in Northern California....and living in Portland sure makes it easier to get home when I miss them.
The future? Lots more skating! I hope to pass some International Dance Tests one day and the podium at Adult Nationals in Championship dance sure sounds nice too! Thanks to our coaches Anthony Darnell and Ryland Stucke. We couldn't have come this far without you. |
